Racing in the first on Expressway Stakes Day, the son of Redouteâs Choice made an immediate impression taking out the $150,000 Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m).
After a nice lead-up trial win at the track earlier in the month, Pariah started at $5.50 in betting for the two-years-old sprint and enjoyed a one length victory over the Gerald Ryan-trained favourite Menari ($1.80).
Finishing off this seasonâs Canonbury Stakes trifecta only a neck further back for third was the Godolphin-raced Malahat ($21).
Kerrin McEvoy rode the Canonbury Stakes winner to victory and co-trainer Paul Snowden on Sunday subsequently confirmed the coltâs $1.5 million Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) aim.
“It is all systems go for the Blue Diamond at this stage with Pariah,” he told Racing Victoria.
“He has always been a colt we have held in high regard and it was good to see him produce it on race day.â
Leading up to the February 25 showdown at Caulfield Racecourse, Pariah will get an earlier look at the track running in Melbourne for the first time Saturday week.
He will be one of a host of hopefuls heading towards the Group 1 classic via the traditional lead-up in the $200,000 Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for colts and geldings on February 11.
“I think we will be bringing a few horses down to Melbourne for that meeting and hopefully a few will stay on for the Blue Diamond program too,â Snowden added.
Snowdenâs father and partner in training Peter has enjoyed a total of three Blue Diamond Stakes victories.
He won with Sepoy (2011) and Earthquake (2014) as the head trainer for the then-Darley (now Godolphin) operation, before the 2015 success in partnership with his son with Pride Of Dubai two years ago.
Pariah has now firmed into equal $8 favourite in futures Blue Diamond Stakes betting with the Lindsay Park-trained filly Catchy through race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au.
Also 2017 Blue Diamond bound for Lindsay Park and racing this weekend at Caulfield is Formality.
At $17 in pre-field Blue Diamond Stakes odds, the progressive Fastnet Rock filly runs in the $150,000 Group 3 Chairmanâs Stakes (1000m).
She is out to retain her undefeated status after winning her debut on January 5 at Werribee by over four lengths and jockey Craig Williams is confirmed to ride her second-up.
The 2017 Blue Diamond Stakes third acceptances close at midday (AEDT) on Tuesday January 31.
